TD/CSS for the Rehab. of East Drive (Willowdell Arch) Bridge over Pedestrian Path, Manhattan, NY
Willowdell Bridge was built in 1861 by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould, with iron railing by J.B. & W.W. The Cornell Iron Works Stone arch vehicle bridge (sandstone and brick) carries East Drive over a park path around 67th Street. The walking path leads visitors from the Mall heading to Fifth Avenue, to the bronze statue of Balto, the celebrated Alaskan sled dog. Willowdell features wedge-shaped stones, and bench seating in the arcade walls of the underpass.
INFOTRAN is the prime consultant on the NYC DOT design and construction support for rehabilitation of the bridge project. During the design phases, the INFOTRAN’s engineering team is addressing the superstructure, substructure, utilities, Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC), electrical/mechanical, aesthetics, pedestrian fencing, landscape design, ADA Compliance, and bird control. INFOTRAN is developing a comprehensive community outreach/public participation plan, and design approval document (DAD) as part of the preliminary design scope.
